Professional Dive Leadership

The PADI Divemaster course is your first step into the professional world of diving. As a Divemaster, you'll learn to assist instructors during training programs, independently guide certified divers, and conduct snorkeling or refresher sessions.

At Island Nomads, our Divemaster training philosophy goes beyond meeting course requirements. We give you the opportunity to experience how a dive center operates on a daily basis, ensuring you gain the confidence, leadership, and practical knowledge needed to inspire others to dive.

PREREQUISITES

Requirements to enroll in the PADI Divemaster course

Certification & Experience

  • Age Requirement

    18 years or older (and under 60)

  • Rescue Diver Certification

    PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent certification

  • Dive Experience

    At least 40 logged dives

Training & Medical Requirements

  • EFR Certification

    Completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care training within the last 24 months

  • Medical Evaluation

    Medically evaluated and cleared for scuba diving by a doctor within the last 6 months

How long does the Divemaster course take to complete?

The PADI Divemaster course typically takes 2-3 months to complete, depending on your schedule and previous experience. This allows for comprehensive training both in theory and practical applications.

Can I work as a Divemaster immediately after certification?

Yes! Once certified, you'll be qualified to work as a dive professional at dive centers around the world. Your certification is internationally recognized, allowing you to guide certified divers and assist with training programs.

What's the difference between Divemaster and Instructor?

A Divemaster can guide certified divers, assist with courses, and conduct certain programs like snorkeling sessions. An Instructor can teach and certify new divers in courses like Open Water Diver. The Divemaster course is the prerequisite for becoming an Instructor.

Do I need to be an excellent swimmer to become a Divemaster?

You need to demonstrate strong watermanship skills, including a 400m swim, 800m snorkel swim, 100m tired diver tow, and 15-minute tread. We'll help you develop these skills during the course if needed.

What is the "Zero to Hero" program mentioned?

Our Zero to Hero program is designed for those who aren't yet certified divers but want to become Divemasters. It covers all prerequisites from Open Water through Rescue Diver before you begin your Divemaster training.
